Ice dam on your roof?

WEATHER ALERT! More bad weather on the way Folks. If you have ice dams on your roof around your gutters you might want to get it taken care of soon. Here is a great tip.

Fill the leg of discarded pair of panty hose with a calcium chloride ice melter. Lay the hose onto the roof so it crosses the ice dam and overhangs the gutter. If necessary, use a long-handled garden rake or hoe to push it into position. The calcium chloride will eventually melt through the snow and ice and create a channel for water to flow down into the gutters or off the roof.

Calcium chloride filled ice melt socks will not damage shingles. Snow melt socks are a tried and proven method and work on sloped or flat roofs. DO NOT use rock salt because it has iron in it that leaves stains on the roof. Stop roof leaks from swollen ice dams in under 20 minutes after applying ice melt socks every 2 feet vertically so the ice melt sock extends down the roof and over the gutter. Ice dams can cause serious structural damage to your home.

Stay safe!
